Kunstenhuis wondered what goes on in the minds of young artists and made a deliberate search for artists who will populate tomorrow's scene. During the journey of discovery, we were amazed more than once by the quality of this new batch. Many of these not-yet-thirty-ones are already profiling themselves more strongly than the generations that preceded them. Clearly, among the young guard, the designation ‘artist’ has become a professional term. It is about time that young artists are given a chance to showcase themselves. The palette we present to the visitor of ‘ THIRTY UNDER THIRTY’ is very varied in all respects. Not only do we show work by young guys who have never (or barely) left their studios, we also show work by young artists who already had several gallery shows to their credit. So the range is very broad, as is the palette of disciplines covered, showing photography, paintings and installations, but also animated film, performances, objects and sculptures. But the exhibition is much more than that: it is also a trip that teaches you to look with open eyes, that shows you how beauty can be packaged differently, that can depict thoughts and give you insights. This show lets you inside the heads and hearts of young creators.
