About Textiles
What does a thread tell us? When does a piece of fabric become more than a functional object? And how can textiles carry stories of identity, memory, labour and society?
The exhibition About Textiles brings together artists who approach textiles as a fully-fledged artistic medium. From woven structures and sculptural installations to photography, mixed media and contemporary interpretations, the exhibition demonstrates how textiles have carried meaning for centuries and continue to inspire artists to give tangible form to today's themes.
Textiles connect past and present. They evoke memories of our region's rich textile heritage while looking ahead to new forms of artistic expression. The soft becomes powerful. Craftsmanship becomes conceptual. The everyday takes on new meaning.
After five years of presenting painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation art, Kunstenhuis Harelbeke takes a new step in its artistic journey with About Textiles. For the first time, textiles take centre stage as the starting point for an exhibition that interweaves tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary art.
From 13 September to 25 October at Kunstenhuis Harelbeke.
Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 2 pm to 6 pm.
Free admission.
