Is there a contemporary art scene in Wallonia? Of course there is! At last! The blind spot that exists in Flanders when it comes to Walloon art is big, too big.
To shed light on this question, Kunstenhuis has invited Walloon curator Rohan Graëffly. He gives us an insight into what's going on south of the 'linguistic border'. The artists he has chosen are known (inter)nationally for their Belgitude, sense of humour, surrealism and anarchism, but are as yet unknown to us. Time for a change.
LES WALLONS SONT LÀ (L' ART) BELGE NE RIME, the curator's explanation:
'Belge' is the only word in the French language that doesn't rhyme with any other French word, hence this mischievous choice, as it reflects our country and our linguistic communities! Poetry in a word that is prose in itself. In short, Belgian surrealism. Belgian anarchy, incongruous and unbridled.
Open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 2 PM to 6 PM
